CHARA Array 2027A Call for Proposals - Due September 30.

The CHARA Array will offer 45 nights of community access time through NOIRLab during the 2026B semester (March 1 through July 31, 2027). Proposals are due Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at 11:59pm Mountain Standard Time (=Tucson time). Five additional nights will be reserved for a new snapshot imaging program that is open to the community.

The available beam combiners in 2027A are CLASSIC, MIRC-X/MYSTIC, and SPICA. The MIRC-X and MYSTIC combiners operate together for simultaneous six telescope observations in the H and K bands with sub-milliarcsecond resolution. The new 6T visible light combiner uses MIRC-X/MYSTIC as a fringe tracker. On sky commissioning of the high sensitivity 3T near IR combiner Silmaril is on-going, and we hope to offer Silmaril to the community in 2027B.

Applications are currently open for the fast turnaround Snapshot Imaging program in the current 2026B semester. More information on applying for the snapshot time can be found here: snapshot imaging mode

Target of Opportunity proposals that request a substantial amount of observing time can be submitted through the standard call for proposals.
