Institution: University of Porto - Collaborations with the Centre for Astrophysics and Gravitation CENTRA, and the National Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering, Technology and Science INESCTEC
Duration: 3 years
I would like to draw attention to the 8th Edition of the FCT Scientific Employment Stimulus, which offers individual funding for postdoctoral researchers to conduct scientific research in Portugal. The scheme provides up to 3 years of salary/funding to be taken flexibly over a maximum project duration of 6 years.
There are two levels of competition:
Junior researcher – PhD obtained less than 5 years ago, with limited postdoctoral experience. Assistant researcher – PhD holders with a relevant track record in the scientific area to which they are applying. The call requires candidates to align their application with the scientific activities and goals of a host institution*. Therefore, I am reaching out to invite potential candidates interested in conducting R&D in high-angular resolution instrumentation and related techniques, in particular with the instruments PCS and METIS @ ELT and Gravity+ @ VLT in the backdrop.
We are eager to expand our R&D efforts in inverse problems and statistical methods applied to atmospheric characterisation, system parameter identification, fine wavefront control, advanced reconstruction methods, as well as imaging faint objects using novel data-driven techniques (e.g., debris detection) and quantum/optical communications through random media.
The deadline is January 29, 2026.
If this opportunity aligns with your research interests, please don’t hesitate to contact me soon.
Best regards,
Carlos M. Correia
